Around Town In South County: On the CERT Exercise & Being Prepared

San Juan Capistrano was the scene of a CERT Exercise to prepare for a 7.9 Earthquake on Saturday,  September 12.      Our team had a chance to catch up with the Laguna Niguel CERT Leader recently to reflect upon the exercise and lessons learnt.

The need to be prepared is absolutely paramount.   What is ever so critical to realize is that it is not a question of if the next big one hits, but when.    With a number of faults around Orange County, it is just a matter of time.  Studies have noted that if an Earthquake occurs in the Newport Fault off Newport Beach, it will trigger a Tsunami that will wipe out Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Dana Point.   As such realizing the challenge is ever so critical to insure that families are prepared.

The exercise in San Juan gave the 5-City South County area provided an opportunity to test their skills.   It was also gratifying to see that the commitment at the County level is continuing as a "POD (Point of Distribution) exercise is slated to be held at Soka University on October 16.   The idea here is to simulate a potential outbreak to ensure that the people are protected in line with Federal Government mandates.   .  It is slated to be held from 11 AM-1 PM.    Please click on here for further information.   It was also of note that the American Red Cross Emergency Prepardness Academy is slated to be held at Anaheim Stadium on October 28.

We here @ #Outsiders wanted to congratulate the members of the Laguna Niguel CERT team who joined this day of service and commend them all for their commitment to service:
