Around Town In South County: Vigil for The Fallen Iranian American College Student (An #Outsider Newsflash)
There was a vigil held at the Orange County District Attorney's Office to remember the fallen College Student, Shayan Mazroei last night. Earlier in the day, Attorneys for the family held a news conference in Irvine as the grief-stricken family looked on to speak on behalf of the family :

Around Town in South County: The Vibrancy of Community Support in Action
The Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee was out in full force yesterday at Albertson's in Marina Hills as it collected supplies for the adopted Military Units of the City. This was also as The Moulton PTSA's recent fundraiser drive for the Military Support Committee yielded some $ 475 in donations in support of the Community's Men & Women in Uniform.
It was also quite gratfiying to see the Community supporting Scouting as various Scouting Units were out raising funds for the annual Popcorn campaign:
Around Town in South County (Special Edition): the Latest On the School Closings
The Capistrano Unified School District had made a decision on realignment of the schools. This was released to the Moulton Community so that they are aware as the transition begins:
At the September 23 Board meeting, CUSD’s Board of Trustees voted to enter into a long-term lease agreement with the Community Roots Academy (CRA) at the Crown Valley Elementary school site beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. Community Roots Academy is a K-12 charter school currently being housed on the campus at Wood Canyon Elementary in Aliso Viejo.
Transition plans will be developed for programs currently at the Crown Valley site. This includes relocating Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kinder through Fifth grades. District staff will work closely with all affected schools to ensure a smooth transition and will engage the school communities in the transition process.
What does this mean for Moulton? As part of the transition plan, Moulton is one of three schools identified as a proposed transition site for Crown Valley students. The three area schools identified for the relocation of Crown Valley students are George White, Moulton and Wood Canyon. In addition, students may choose to relocate to other area schools including Hidden Hills and Malcom, through School of Choice options.
Moulton will benefit from the addition of wonderful students and parents. We look forward to welcoming the students and families of Crown Valley that choose to join our Moulton family!
Moving forward, as we learn more about the transition decisions of the families at Crown Valley, we will look for opportunities to include their students and families in our activities.
Community Engagement dates are being set to involve all stakeholders in the development of the transition plan. Please keep posted and look forward to these upcoming dates.
Also, in order to be proactive and prepare our school site to receive additional students, I am forming a Task Force to address the issues regarding traffic congestion at drop off and pick up as well as issues surrounding the various walking paths that lead into Moulton School. If you are interested in being a part of this Task Force, please e-mail me at jlcampbell@capousd.org
I look forward to working together and thank you in advance for your support and involvement.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Campbell, Principal

Around Town in South County: Visiting Where Orange County Was Born
This past Friday, our Founder visited Mission San Juan Capistrano as Orange County celebrated the sainthood of Junipero Serra, the Founder of the California Missions. San Juan is the 7th of 21 Missions that became the nucleus of what is California today.
Our founder reflected upon how peaceful and beautiful the grounds were. It was also of note how visionary leaders like Tony Moiso, Richard O'Neill and Wylie Aiken stepped up to preserve this jewel of Orange County for generations to come.
We hope all visit this "clip" produced by our Founder here as we all embrace Saint Serra's admonition to "Sempre Adelante"--Always forward!!!

On this Friday Musical Interlude: Klaus Badelt's God Speed; The Interfaith Service & The Prayer of St. Francis
It is time for the Friday Musical Interlude here in #Outsiders. We chose Klaus Badelt and hope all enjoy this selection. As we went to press and commented on the interfaith service in our properties, we were also witness as a Young Person Choir at the 9/11 Memorial finished "Let there be Peace On Earth". We here at #Outsiders pray for it every day as we also remember all the fallen in Mecca--we are seeing reports that some 200 Iranians have perished.
We could not help but be reminded of the Prayer of St. Francis that the Holy Father took to underscore this selfless sense of service on this solemn day as we share this w/all and wish all a Fabulous weekend as we should pause to be thankful for all that we're blessed with:

Around Town in South County: Midweek Notations
St. Timothy's Catholic Parish Church Bells rang today. It is part of a transformation of the Parish that is due to begin over the ensuing months as the Food Pantry will be expanded and the kitchen will be transformed. It is also a good day here in South Orange County as the Holy Father formally declares Junipero Serra a Saint. Festivities will be going on throughout Orange County and the Chapel will be open for a tour this coming Friday starting at 2:00 PM at the Mission Basicilla. There has been quite a bit of controversy on his role and the vehement opposition that Native Americans have had. What is clear is that he made a difference and in more ways helped to shape the United States and the California that has evolved as it has.
This is also a day to remember a victim and a call for Justice. A concerted campaign has been launched to ask the Orange County District Attorney's Office to investigate Killing of Shayan Mazroei as a hate Crime. He was killed in Laguna Niguel a number of weeks ago.
The petition on @Change.org has garnered over 3,800 signatures. There is a press conference scheduled for this coming Monday, September 28 at noon in Irvine as reported on the Facebook Page, Justice For Shayan Mazroei, earlier today:

Catching Up with the Founder of "Fish For Life" & An Opportunity to Make A Difference
Our team had an opportunity to recently catch up with the Founder of Fish for Life, Jim Holden. We have been on these cruises and have been supportive of the work he and his team does to bring joy to the lives of Special Needs Children and their families by allowing them a day to Fish and have the time of their lives.
He is gearing up for the latest cruise that will be departing Long Beach on October 17. He has also been busy gearing up for his 5th Annual Texas Holdem Fundraiser that provides an opportunity for the Community to come together to support this wonderful cause featuring a cast of the "who's who" of NFL Greats!!!

Around Town In South County (Week-End Edition): Quite a Week!!
Friday night was a busy night at Aliso Niguel High School as Dana Hills and Aliso Niguel played. Aliso Niguel Prevailed. This was as Thursday also saw The Aliso Niguel Water Polo Team was in action against Tesoro as well. It was fabulous to see the Community be out in support of our youth:
It was also quite a week on the Community front. The Aliso Niguel City Council took up the matter of Regal selling Alcohol as members of the Council were not pleased with how Regal had handled it. We will be continuing to monitor this as the matter is slated to be taken up on October 21. For further information, please visit: http://www.alisonow.com/ which will have the most current updates on this:
We also were very happy to see the Grand Opening of Skewers in Laguna Niguel on September 18. This is a Turkish Cypriot Eatery that features some of the most delicious Mediterranean Food out there. If one wishes to have a flavor of the Mediterrian, check them out. It was gratifying tos ee how the Community embraced them and as the Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce supported them as they did:
We here @ #Outsiders congratulate them and wish them all the best. We also wanted to note that this is also an important week for Orange County as The founder of the California Missions, Junipero Sera, Will be declared a Saint by the Holy Father as he begins his tour of the United States and remember what he did in California below:

Around Town In South County: On the CERT Exercise & Being Prepared
San Juan Capistrano was the scene of a CERT Exercise to prepare for a 7.9 Earthquake on Saturday, September 12. Our team had a chance to catch up with the Laguna Niguel CERT Leader recently to reflect upon the exercise and lessons learnt.
The need to be prepared is absolutely paramount. What is ever so critical to realize is that it is not a question of if the next big one hits, but when. With a number of faults around Orange County, it is just a matter of time. Studies have noted that if an Earthquake occurs in the Newport Fault off Newport Beach, it will trigger a Tsunami that will wipe out Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Dana Point. As such realizing the challenge is ever so critical to insure that families are prepared.
The exercise in San Juan gave the 5-City South County area provided an opportunity to test their skills. It was also gratifying to see that the commitment at the County level is continuing as a "POD (Point of Distribution) exercise is slated to be held at Soka University on October 16. The idea here is to simulate a potential outbreak to ensure that the people are protected in line with Federal Government mandates. . It is slated to be held from 11 AM-1 PM. Please click on here for further information. It was also of note that the American Red Cross Emergency Prepardness Academy is slated to be held at Anaheim Stadium on October 28.
We here @ #Outsiders wanted to congratulate the members of the Laguna Niguel CERT team who joined this day of service and commend them all for their commitment to service:

Notations For the W-End: Around South County on 9/11
#911Day is not just any day. It was a day that changed America and the World forever. Once again, communities throughout the United States came together to remember, reflect and to honor. Our team reflected upon this yesterday as well.
In Laguna Niguel, one such remarkable day was held at Moulton Elementary School. The Moulton PTSA in close collaboration with Cub Scout Pack 774 put together an ICE Cream Social to support the Work of the City of Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee. The Ice Cream was donated by a local favorite that is always at the forefront of support for the Community: Ball Park Pizza.
It was quite a scene as the Moulton Families joined this afternoon and the Scouts led a remembrance to honor America and the Community was privy to the solemn ceremony of retiring the flag. Here are some scenes from this extraordinary afternoon of service:

On This #911Day.....
Today is Friday 9/11. Fourteen years ago today the horrible day occurred that changed America and the World forever. It is a day to remember and reflect on this Patriots Day as we are here throughout #Outsiders.
Our team's tradition to share the Friday Musical Interlude is dedicated to America Today as we chose David Lanz' Redition of America for this day as we also feature the call to action from the Team at 9/11 Day & Good Deeds. We also join US Senator Kristen Gillibrand of New York as she is spearheading efforts to ensure that all the first responders are taken care of.
This call to action was telling as we should heed the voice of the young who were born on this day:
We close this with this David Lantz Tribute to America as we also note this from President Ronald Reagan:

Around Town in South County: A Brief "newsflash" On School & A Milestone
School closures continue to be of concern throughout the Community as Crown Valley and Hidden Hills Elementary Schools are on the list to be closed as Community Roots Academy is seeking to expand its' Campus. There are apparent options available--as these two schools along with George White are considered under-enrolled schools.
It was also a week of celebration in South County as a County Stalwart celebrated her 90th Birthday. Marian Bergerson is 90 Years Young. She joined the Students and Staff at the School named after her to celebrate this day. She has had a long distinguished career serving Orange County and the State of California. On behalf of all of us at #Outsiders, we express our appreciation for her selfless sense of service and wish her all the best.

Around Town In South County: On the Economic Front with News From Haagan & Quicksilver
It has been a distressing 24 hours on the Economic Front in Orange County. Haagan declared Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after having taken over quite a number of Albertson and Safeway Stores in Orange County. We will continue to follow this as we also saw reports of Quicksilver of Huntington Beach also declared bankruptcy. This is also as Macy's just announced that 40 Stores are closing throughout the United States. We will be assessing this throughout Orange County over the course of the ensuing weeks.

View of the Week: A "Blast From the Recent Past"
For this edition of "View of the Week", we decided to feature a recent "Blast From the Recent Past" on this week. Our team was reflecting upon this as the team captured this recent image of one of the street corner folks.
Our founder published a column in the Liberal OC which we found of special interest to feature here which we hope is of interest originally published and available here--our plan is to publish a compilation of these columns in a Book soon:

Voices From Street Corners (Vol 22): What a Summer….
by Mike Pouraryan •
As kids go back to school, I reflected upon the Summer as I had the good fortune to hang out with my Son throughout the Summer. For me, the climax of the Summer was when I escorted my Son to the “Rule The Pool” at the Crown Valley Pool in the City of Laguna Niguel. As I saw the kids having the time of their life, I started walking around the Niguel Botanical Reserve and truly marveled at such a gem of a resource right in the middle of the City. I was in awe!!!
As I marveled at the beauty, I thought about the City of Laguna Niguel. I saw as Laguna Niguel’s new City Hall took shape and what a beautiful building it has turned out to be. I remember when I had the privilege to witness when the City Council broke ground. The new City Hall was built on time, on budget with no debt being incurred by the city. As I thought about the city, how it has continued to maintain a reasonable level of service while navigating through rather challenging times, I wondered whether lessons can be learnt from the city has done that could be translated into the National Scene.
The “sign people” have seemed to have disappeared lately. Although I hope that they have somehow settled down, the fact that the National Unemployment Rate continues to be stuck at 9.1 Percent does not give me much hope. What is even more tragic is that the the real unemployment rate is at 16.2 Percent (Source:http://portalseven.com/employment/unemployment_rate_u6.jsp). No one seems to really talk about the real unemployment rate as the debate goes from the superficial to the ridiculous. I was especially shocked when I saw comments by the House Republican Leader, Mr. Canton, continue his crusade for Deficit Reduction as people continue to be under ever more pressure after Hurricane Irene. All the talk has been on entitlement cuts and “reform”. Yet, there is no talk about reductions in Defense.
I have continued to be fearful of as we approach the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. As I look forward to attending the City’s 9/11 memorial, I can’t help but be worried about the future. It has been 10 years since that terrible day that changed things forever. What is clear is that 9/11 changed the World forever. I wanted to get a sense of the debate over the 9/11 Decade and Google came back with 142,000,000 Hits. The debate on this will never be over.
One of the more insightful articles I saw was from The Independent’s Robert Fiske. He noted the fact that the right questions were never asked. What was so unfortunate and frankly scary is how the America has become ever more paranoid. When I read about people being on Watch Lists and no fly lists, I wonder if anyone remembered that the Constitution actually in fact existed. I saw a story on Al Jazeera as it had its’ series on the 9/11 decade about someone being put on the No-Fly list. The Department of Homeland Security actually told him in a letter that he would be taken off if he agreed to serve as an informant going around local Mosques. He refused and is now part of a lawsuit challenging such regulations. What is scary is that if the Government suspects you, it can monitor you with you knowing it–thanks to the Patriot Act.
Beyond the Government, I continue to amazed as Islamphobia continues to be gathering steam. I was shocked to read the report by the Center for American Progress about how a number of foundations helped to underwrite the fear of Muslims by underwriting a number of so-called experts including Daniel Pipes and Frank Gaffney. Although I hope that what the Center of American Progress has done to expose this so far, what continues to be of concern is how this deluge of scare tactics over Islam continues to gather steam. I nearly fell off my chair in laughter when I saw Soledad O’Brien’s Special on CNN when he interviewed this Lawyer who was suing to stop an Islamic Center because of “Sharia Law”. It is so tragic how a propaganda outlet like Fox News has insured that such manufactured nonsense continues to perpetuate itself. The bloggers and the right wing talk show hosts are even worst.
What the Center for American Progress details in “Fear Inc” is chilling:

I have truly wondered what Jefferson would say to such people today. Jefferson was the one who bought the Quran that Congressman Keith Ellison took his oath of Office on in 1763. Yet, instead of truly focused on the long-term challenges of the Country, we have Congressman King focused on what the Somalis are doing while ignoring the rise of other radical groups in the Country.
As I thought about the 9/11 Decade and about the summer, I have become increasingly scared. The idea of bometrics Identification cards, facial recognition software and increased surviellance is something that we have come to expect in China. What is the difference between China and US? When I read about 2 Million Cameras in the City of Shenzhen, I wondered how long it would be before we’re there. It is already happening because of moves in cities throughout South Orange County to use Cameras to enforce traffic laws. When I read about the work and the involvement of the US Northern Command and the Joint Special Operations Command, I became ever more scared. Apparently such “experiments” are already being done in Iraq.
As I thought about the ensuing debate over the Summer, I became ever more concerned about the overall tone of the debate about all the patroits who claimed to speak for America, but seem to have lost the very essence of America. Maybe such people need to truly listen to the wisdom of this clip from the American President:

The people in charge seem to have truly lost their way. As I look at the Political landscape right now, I have to wonder why is there such a clamour to devote so such to the so-called job creators while the rest of the people seem to be left to fend for themselves. As I further thought about our world, I thought about the Republican Field. I had a chance to catch some of the debates and was entertained by the softball questions. I truly fell out of my chair in laughter when I read about Mr. Romney’s plans to triple his vacation home and then came out said how he wanted to only double it–and then wanted to fashion himself as a man of the people by eating a Carl’s Jr. Burger. The moves were quite calculated as he of course related a story about how he shopped for his grandkids at Walmart. I listened to Jon Huntsman touting his plan to get America back to Work. I read about the pending Romney plan and the pending Bachmann plan. They all continue to push for tax cuts to help spruce up job growth. But I could not help but wonder where they have been because there has been literally no job growth.
Of all the current crowd of Republican Hopefuls, the one that really fascinates me is Rick Perry. He seems to be the current Knight in Shinning Armor for the Republicans right now touting his Texas record and how he would bring that sense of Texas Purpose to Washington. But, first, he has a lot to answer for because he has a record that he has to answer for. Whether the Corporate Media will have the guts and the courage to ask the questions remains to be seen. This is as I await what the President has to say about how he plans to help spruce up job growth. I have to wonder whether he can entice the Do-Nothing Congress to move. The President, though, needs to realize that he may lose this election if he continues to be complacent.
As the US continues to be in a state of flux, my mind drifted beyond America’s shores to the Middle East. I continue to be amazed as to how the region has undergone the changes. The idea of US allies being brought to justice for their actions bodes well for the future. It also continues to show the hollowness of how US Policy has been towards the Middle East. This is as we continue to fight three wars halfway around the World. Although we have been told that we will be out of Iraq, the reality is otherwise. The war continues to rage on in Afghanistan with no end in sight as Pakistan continues to be on fire too. This is as the World Economy is in a state of crisis that has seen Europe on the brink of Bankruptcy, the US being driven to near default, Japan in recession and China slowing.
As I saw the horrific scenes from Somalia, I drifted again back to Orange County and remembered what Jack Layton, the late Canadian NDP leader told Canadians as he concluded his final letter to the Canadian People:
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
I plan on continuing to be optimistic. I admit that it is a tall order.

Around Town in South County: Brief Developments From the Capistrano Unified School District
Children are back at School. It appears that all seem to have settled into the "School Routine" as traffic at area schools seem to be manageable and the vibrancy of the Community has come alive yet again. The sports scene has also been quite vibrant in area high schools as well as Aliso Niguel looks to its' homecoming celebrations on October 2.
There are changes coming, though. One notable change is the fact that the Capistrano Unified School District is proposing August 16 as the new start date for the 2015-16 school year. It is on the agenda for debate for the September 9 meeting at District Headquarters. This is as a number of the Elementary Schools (including Wood Canyon, Crown Valley and Del Obispo among others) are slated to be shut down as Community Roots is looking to expand its' campus.
Our team will continue to assess the changes over the ensuing weeks and months.

Around Town In The OC: Visiting Surf City USA
Our team was around Orange County yesterday visiting Huntington Beach--known affectionately around the World as "Surf City USA". For the record, it is a trademark that is owned by the city and a point of pride for all in Orange County.
For this edition of "Around Town", the images from a day in "Surf City USA" speaks volumes to the beauty and majesty of Huntington Beach as we hope all enjoy with this that we captured right at "Main Street" as once again it was bustling with people and street vendors:
