Safe Schools: A Priority in South Orange County

As the debate over Gun Control rages on at the National Level, it is gratifying to note how Capistrano Unified School District has had policies and procedures in place to be ready to insure that the 53,000 children who attended the almost 90 facilities throughout the District are safe and will continue to remain safe.

I recently attended a meeting with the Director of Safety for the District.   He laid out a detailed presentation on the incident command system they have implemented in line with the National Incident Management System developed at the Federal Level to deal with emergencies.    They have developed a very close working relationship with the Orange County Sheriff's Department to identify early at risk youth.    There are regular Security Assessments.     It was gratifying to see a sense of purpose in this on-going effort.
